The Big Island’s COVID-19 case count increased by two Thursday to 2,836.
Statewide, 80 new cases were reported by the Department of Health with 61 of those cases on Oahu, 16 in Maui County and no new cases in Kauai County. One resident was diagnosed while outside the state.
Since the end of last February, 35,665 people have tested positive for COVID-19 across Hawaii.
Over the past two weeks, the Big Island has reported 57 cases, or an average of 3.7 cases per day. Of those cases, 13 were reported in Kailua-Kona. Other districts around the island reported 10 or less cases in the two-week period.
The Big Island Thursday had a 0.8% positivity rate, under the statewide rate of 1.5%
According to the Department of Health’s weekly COVID-19 Cluster Report issued on Thursday, one cluster was under investigation during the past 14 days in the Big Island. That cluster was associated with an unidentified educational setting in which three people were infected and spread it to two others.
Also Thursday, a total of 45 patients with the virus were in Hawaii hospitals with two reported on the Big Island.
No new coronavirus-related deaths were reported on Thursday. Of the 492 coronavirus-related deaths confirmed and reported by the state to date, 380 were on Oahu, 54 were on Maui, 53 were on the Big Island and two on Kauai. Three deaths were among residents outside the state.
